Dr Alan Greenspan in conversation with Jeff Randall

Dr Alan Greenspan spoke at Chatham House on 1 October as part of his tour to launch his new book The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World. In conversation with Jeff Randall, Presenter, Sky News, he was asked about a range of subjects including the impact of globalization; the ageing US workforce; the mortgage market and sub-prime loans; and the value of longevity in a central banker.

Dr Greenspan, who was Chairman of the US Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006, agreed when asked that he had presided over a 'honeymoon period' of globalization characterized by cheap labour, low interest rates and low inflation. He described this 'golden period' as essentially being the economic consequences of the end of the Cold War.
