New book outlines Israeli policy options on Palestine
25 April 2005
When deciding the future of Israeli-Palestinian relations, Israelis disagree, not only on their preferred solution to the conflict, but also on the values and goals underlying those preferences and on their assessments of what is ultimately feasible.
In a new book published by Chatham House entitled Israel and the Palestinians: Israeli Policy Options, these differences are systematically compared and contrasted in an effort to guide the reader past the media headlines and towards a greater understanding of what really drives Israeli policy debates.
The book is jointly edited by Rosemary Hollis, Director of Research and formerly Head of the Middle East Programme at Chatham House and Mark A. Heller, Director of Research at the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies, Tel Aviv University.
The five policy options explored are:
Negotiating a permanent status agreement, David Kimche
Preserve the land, Israel Harel
Interim arrangements and conflict management, Uzi Arad
International intervention for conflict management and resolution, Joel Peters and Orit Gal
Unilateral disengagement, Dan Schueftan
The book will be launched at Chatham House on 9 May
The editors will be available for interview on the day of the launch. For enquiries and interview requests contact:
