Individual Membership

Chatham House brings together individuals who share a deep interest in international affairs, independent thinking and debate. Our members encompass a diverse range of backgrounds and professions including academics, business people, diplomats, the media, NGOs, politicians, policy-makers, researchers and others. As a member you become part of this influential network.

Contributions from our members, through subscriptions and other donations, are a vital source of discretionary revenue that helps to sustain the independence of Chatham House.

Chatham House libraryChatham House Library

Free use of the Chatham House Library and its information services, including research enquiry services, book loans and wifi. The members' room is also available for small meetings and can be used as research space.

The Under 35s ForumUnder 35s Forum

Members under the age of 35 enjoy all the benefits of individual membership as well as access to the Under 35s Forum, a programme of events and networking opportunities for the next generation of the institute's membership.

Members at a meetingOther Events

Members' receptions, 'meet the speaker' receptions and other special events such as the Chatham House Annual Conference and our Annual Lectures. Members may also attend open-access research events and conferences, subject to registration and availability.

Membership is valid for a year and renewable annually on the anniversary of joining. There are four types of individual membership:
