Lebanese Prime Minister to visit Chatham House

On Tuesday 9 May, HE Mr Fouad Siniora will give his first speech in the UK since becoming Prime Minister of Lebanon. After a tumultuous time for the country which included the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri and a historic withdrawal of Syrian troops Mr Siniora will outline the future path for his country.

After taking office in July 2005, Mr Siniora has taken a conciliatory tone with all major parties being included in his government. He has also taken the historic step of being the first Lebanese Prime Minister to admit members of Hezbollah into his government.

Mr Siniora who is a former Finance Minister and Citibank executive, will outline the challenges for Lebanon and how the international community can assist in achieving stability and progress within the country. The Prime Minister will also give his views on how best to move toward peace and stability within the wider Middle East.
