The speakers will discuss the prospects for an improvement in their nations bilateral relations after Syria's attendance at the US-led Israeli-Palestinian talks in Annapolis. Syrian-Palestinian relations are vital to the future of the region, Syria has not signed a peace agreement with Israel and the long-term status of the Golan Heights, which Israel has held since 1967, remains unresolved. The representatives will consider the future of Hamas both in terms of its leadership, parts of which have been based in Damascus since the 1990s, and its likely future development in Gaza and the West Bank.
