Raj Loomba

Raj LoombaRaj Loomba is the founder Chairman of Rinku Group plc, a well-established knitwear company in the UK, which imports from India and several Far Eastern countries, including China.

Mr Loomba is also known for his many charitable activities. He set up a charitable trust (the Loomba Trust) to educate children of poor widows in India and is also promoting better understanding and good relations between India and the UK through India First Plc. He has received many honours and awards, including the Asian of the Year Award in the UK in 1997.

Mr Loomba has organised many fund-raising activities to support his charitable aims, and to create broader understanding of humanitarian issues. He was the chairman of the steering committee of the British Indian Jubilee Banquet, which celebrated India's 50th anniversary of independence and raised £240,000 to support leading British universities.

Over £1 million has been raised by organizing several fundraising events in the UK and India to support the work of the Loomba Trust. He was the pioneer of International Widows Day which is now held annually on 23 June to raise the awareness of the plight of the widows around the world, who are suffering through poverty, disease, conflict and social injustice.
