Available Positions:


House Internship

We are looking for an intern to work for the House from 1 - 5 September 2008 inclusive, from 29 - 10 October 2008 inclusive and from 17 - 21 November 2008 inclusive. We also need an intern from 5 - 16 January and 16 - 20 February 2009 inclusive. The successful applicant/s will relieve the receptionist for lunch and tea breaks and will be expected to operate the switchboard (for which training will be given). Training should commence at least 4 days/1 week prior to the appointment. Other work related to the Despatch Department and Programmes will be given as it arises.

Requirements:

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and IT skills.

The placement/s is for one or more candidates who is/are available on the dates given above and is for someone who is prepared to work a 5-day week. Hours of work are from 09.30 - 17.30. Please state your available dates on your application.

Other Information:

This position is unpaid. The successful applicant would have access to almost all relevant meetings and conferences within the Institute on a variety of international affairs related topics, free lunch at Chatham House and free use of the Library. Travel to and from work within London (zones 1&2 only) will be paid for the days worked.

Membership Development Internship

If you are seeking work experience in international affairs and would like to get involved in the management and administration of Chatham House's individual and corporate membership programme, as well as be involved in a varied programme of events, then you may be interested in this intern vacancy in Membership & Development. We are looking for someone who is capable, flexible and keen to make the most out of this opportunity.

This is an exciting chance to gain valuable experience working at one of the world's foremost institutes for the study of International Relations and to develop skills relating to membership and events management. The successful applicant will be a well organized individual with excellent communications skills (including good telephone manners).

The intern will assist Membership & Development staff in a number of areas (including database administration, meeting preparation, research on potential corporate members, events promotion and logistics, general administrative tasks, etc.) in a vibrant and busy office, which we hope, will provide an excellent stepping stone from higher education to the employment market.

Requirements:

Excellent administrative and IT skills (word, excel, membership database and the internet), as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Application Details:

The placement will be for an initial period of three months. Although flexible, we are ideally looking for someone to work 4 days a week-please state your availability in your covering letter. There will be an initial trial period. Working hours are from 09.30 - 17.30.
Start day: as soon as possible

Other Information:

This position is unpaid. The successful applicant will have access to almost all relevant meetings and conferences within the Institute on a variety of international affairs related topics, free lunch at Chatham House and free use of the Library. Travel to and from work within London (zones 1&2 only) will be paid for the days worked. The successful applicant will also acquire significant experience in event management, research, marketing and general office duties.
