There are four vacancies:

Programme Manager and Research Fellow, International Economics
The Programme Manager and Research Fellow is responsible for the smooth running of key research projects and for the coordination of all project-related activities. He/she is expected to provide research support to research projects as well as assisting the Research Director with grant applications and research proposals. He/she is also responsible for the publication, dissemination and effective communication of research results. The post also involves maintaining relationships with international contacts and core supporters, monitoring budgeted income and expenditure and drafting budget plans for projects/grant applications. The Programme Manager and Research Fellow is occasionally expected to participate in conferences and seminars in the UK and overseas and to ensure high visibility for the projects and related activities through media appearances.
Principal Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Developing and implementing the organisation of research related events such as seminars, roundtables, workshop
- Supervising the organisation and logistics for workshops, study groups, seminars and other project activities
- Coordinate project participants, ensure that project deadlines are met and output quality is in line with the Institute's standard
- Liaising with partner institutions on coordination of joint activities
- Developing and maintaining links with sponsors in collaboration with the Research Director
Communications/Publications:
- Liaising with authors and Publications Department on production, promotion and sale of project-related publications
- Occasional initial copy-editing of first drafts of manuscripts
- Maintaining up to date entries for the research projects on the web page and other House publicity vehicles
- Compiling publicity for research activities, in consultation with the Research Director and the Research Coordinator
- Liaising with media contacts and monitoring the external impact of projects output
- Disseminating research findings through media appearances
- Participate in conferences and seminars in the UK and overseas when required
Project Accounts/Finance:
- Drafting budgets for grant applications in consultation with the Research Director and the Research Coordinator
- Monitoring budgeted income and expenditure for joint projects with partner institutions and in consultation with the Research Coordinator
- Keep accurate accounting records for the projects managed in consultation with the Research Coordinator
- Assisting the Research Director to develop new projects and raise project funds
Department/Office Management:
- Maintenance of project records, files and data bases
Supervision of Staff:
- Supervision of interns

Research Assistant, International Economics
The Research Assistant provides key research support to the Research Director and the International Economics research team; he/she is responsible for data collection, data analysis, compilation of reference lists and survey of economic literature. The post also involves maintaining updated economic indicators and forecasts for the International Economics research team.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Data collection and data analysis
- Compilation of reference lists and survey of economic literature
- Preparation of charts and tables to be used in papers and presentations
- Weekly update of key economic indicators and forecasts for the the International Economics research team
- When required, helping the Research Coordinator organising research-related events e.g. workshops, seminars, discussion groups and open meetings
- Attending team meetings and, when required, Chatham House meetings
Research Projects:
1. 'Rebalancing the World Economy with Emerging Powers: the Search for Post-Crisis Growth Models and Policy Tools for Macro-Coordination' - project director: Paola Subacchi
2. 'International Financial Centres in Greater China' - project director: Paola Subacchi
Good command of Chinese would be an advantage.

Programme Coordinator, Energy, Environment and Development Programme
Chatham House is seeking to appoint a full-time Programme Coordinator to assist the Energy, Environment and Development Programme.
The successful candidate will coordinate all aspects of programme activities and projects working across climate security, energy security and resource governance. Excellent organisation and communication skills are required together with a proven interest in the programme's work - a degree or Masters in the relevant field is ideal. Proficiency in MS Office is also required.
Salary range: £21,062 to £24,386
Purpose of job:
To coordinate all aspects of programme activities and projects working across climate security, energy security and resource governance, including providing research support; maintaining relationships with international contacts and core supporters; ensuring the smooth running of events and publication production and monitoring budgeted income and expenditure.
Principal Responsibilities:
Project Coordination:
- Working with the Programme team on project development and execution
- Acting as liaison with researchers and Fellows
- Assisting with desk research and developing area expertise
- Organising attendance, travel accommodation and other logistics for workshops, study groups, seminars and other project activities
- Liaising with partner institutes on logistics for joint activities
- Organising briefings, seminars, roundtables, conferences at Chatham House
- Developing and maintaining links with sponsors. Constant search for potential new sponsorship
Programme Budget Accounts/Finance:
- Monitoring budgeted income and expenditure for joint projects with partner institutions and where appropriate arranging transfers or disbursements of funds according to the budget
- Assisting with drafting budgets for grant applications
- Maintaining accounting records for the Programme in coordination with the Accounts Department
- Managing records of supporter contributions, including scheduling of invoicing as required and alerting the Programme Head when supporters/contributions need special attention
Communications/Publications
- Compiling publicity for Programme activities, in consultation with the Programme Head
- Liaising with authors and Publications Department on production, promotion and sale of Programme publications
- Ensuring information is kept up to date on the Programme's web pages and other House publicity vehicles
- Liaising with media contacts for the Programme
Department/Office Management:
- Maintenance of Programme records, files and databases
Supervision of Staff:
- Supervision of interns to the Programme as appropriate

Finance Manager
Chatham House is seeking to appoint a full-time Finance Manager to manage the Finance Department and supervise a staff of 3.
The successful candidate will be a CCAB qualified accountant with at least 5 years accounts experience.
Salary c. £40k+
Main objectives:
- Day-to day management of the Finance Department
- To prepare accurate and timely management accounts
- Ensure provision of an effective accounting support service to the organisation
- To assist in the preparation of the annual budget and statutory accounts
Qualifications and experience:
- CCAB Qualified Accountant
- At least 5 years + accounts experience
- Extensive experience of preparing monthly management accounts with ideally some experience of project costing, preparing budgets and analysing variances
- Good systems experience - Great Plains Dynamics would be useful
- Experience of MS Office and in particular strong Excel skills
- Some experience of staff supervision would be advantageous
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts to a tight schedule
- Assist the Financial Director in the preparation of regular quarterly forecasts and the annual budget
- Assist the Financial Director in the preparation of the annual statutory accounts
- Analyse and reconcile detailed monthly accounting schedules for the research programmes, conferences and membership
- Act as the main finance contact for the research programme managers assisting them in analysing and interpreting their numbers
- Improve and develop the standard report writer ensuring reports are relevant and up-to-date
- Assist the FD in upgrading the existing accounting software package and ensure the new system is fully understood and used effectively by all Finance staff
- Supervise the work of the Senior Financial Accountant and the two part time Finance Officers
- Ad-hoc responsibilities including special projects (e.g. IRS Tax Return) and departmental cost analysis
- Assist the FD in implementing changes to processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting processes
- Handle all VAT matters including partial exemption
