The Chatham House Rule: Information for journalists

Conference Overview

Climate change and energy security have never been higher on the public and political agenda, with a role for renewable energy, and energy efficiency undisputed. This has been further reinforced by the recent agreements at EU level. Last year, renewable energy investment world wide totalled over $70+ billion, with further mergers, acquisitions and buyouts in the pipeline, signalling increasing interest and maturity in the sector.

Effective policy remains essential for enabling investment at present, and the finance community has a crucial perspective on policy design, and regulatory issues that provide conditions for greater deal flow and address such complex 'international' matters such as technology transfer in a world where Indian and Chinese renewables companies are international actors.

Yet to date, financiers are generally not involved in policy processes directly. Is the policy community now at risk of lagging behind in the opportunity to mobilize significant further investment?

This conference will create a unique opportunity for policymakers, investors and financiers to examine perspectives on market trends and political drivers, as well as exploring how the sector may be scaled up still further.
