The Move Back to Nuclear

The speed with which nuclear energy has reestablished itself in the developed world as a credible option in helping to address the twin challenges of secure and environmentally acceptable energy supplies is remarkable. After twenty years in which new orders more or less dried up outside the Asia-Pacific region, new reactors have been ordered in Finland and France, license applications are being made in the USA and a range of other countries, including the UK, are considering a move back into nuclear energy.

Lessons From the Past and Future Challenges

At this major 2-day international conference the following questions will be discussed:

Why this change? Is it realistic? What obstacles does the industry face? What lessons can be learned about that first major expansion phase for nuclear technology - what were its successes and failures - and how can those lessons be applied to the situation the world now finds itself in with regard to energy supplies?
