China's Ambassador Outlines Policy on Sudan

China's Ambassador to Darfur has delivered a strong message urging Sudan to be flexible and to actively collaborate with the international community for a proper settlement of the issue. In a rare public meeting, Ambassador Liu Guijin told a Chatham House audience that the Chinese government is deeply concerned about the Darfur issue and wholly sympathetic towards the suffering of the local people.

Ambassador Liu said he wished to stress that 'China-Africa friendship and cooperation is not an exclusive relationship, but an open and transparent one.' He said that 'China will work with the UK and all the other countries that care about the peace and development of Africa to help the continent achieve social and economic development, shake off poverty and put an end to wars and conflicts'.

Ambassador Liu's speech will be added here shortly.
