Greenhouse gas emissions from the destruction of tropical forests are currently estimated at between 20 and 25% of all human-induced emissions. A recent workshop held by The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (the RSPB) in Collaboration with the Energy, Environment and Development Programme identified options for advancing negotiations on "avoided deforestation" and to explore advantages and disadvantages of such options.
