The speaker has described Somalia as the worst humanitarian situation in Africa. He will speak about his efforts to draw international attention to the scale and severity of the conflict engulfing the south of Somalia, where over one million people have been displaced and Mogadishu has witnessed almost daily atrocities. He will offer insights into the difficulties faced during the UN-led reconciliation process for Somalia and will reflect on the ever more violent and extreme nature of the insurgency in the country.
