The speaker will question some fundamental assumptions concerning Asia's post-Cold War politics. He will argue that relations between the West and China rest on a series of obsolete ideas left over from the Cold War, plus, especially in the case of the US, a series of policy changes driven by interest groups and increasingly ideological thinking. Drawing on decades of political and business experience, he will ask whether the US can reconcile its conflicting economic and political interests in Asia, and adjust to changing Asian realities. He will argue that we may be on the verge of a new geopolitical era which will affect the region and the world.
