Korean Peninsula |
The Asia Programme's work on Korea aims to improve understanding of this critical part of the world - the site of great power rivalry in the nineteenth century, civil war in the 1950s, and potential nuclear conflict in the 21st century.
The Asia Programme is pleased to be associated with the '38 North' website, established at the US-Korea Institute at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University. The site provides a new forum for informed commentary and discussion on DPRK-related issues.
This is a major project funded in part by the Korea Foundation, which brings together SAIS and Chatham House, as well as other affiliated institutions, to explore pragmatic policy options for promoting the human security agenda between the DPRK and the international community.
The website aims to harness the experience of long-time observers of North Korea and others who have dealt directly with North Koreans. It does not limit its coverage to North Korea's weapons of mass destruction but also digs beneath the surface of political, economic, social and other developments. These changes have important implications for the Korean peninsula, the East Asian region and the international community.
