Lebanon on the Edge: An Appraisal of the Crisis

Tuesday 18 March 2008 13:30 to 14:30

Location

Chatham House, London

Participants

Professor Augustus Richard Norton, Boston University and author, Hezbollah: A Short History (2007)
Chair: Ian Black, Middle East editor, The Guardian

Type: Members event

The speaker will focus on the situation in Lebanon after the war in July 2006, and particularly the political stalemate that deepened in the autumn of last year and has continued. One key to understanding the crisis is to assess the structural coherence of the opposing political forces, and to weigh the goals of the key actors. The role of external players will also be examined and the conditions necessary for a realignment of the players will be considered.
