Ukraine's Progress since the Orange Revolution

Thursday 15 May 2008 12:00 to 13:00

Location

Chatham House, London

Participants

HE Victor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine
Chair: Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind QC MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1995-97)

Type: Members event

Two and a half years since winning the inaugural Chatham House Prize in recognition of his courage and skill in steering a peaceful process of political change in Ukraine, President Yushchenko returns to Chatham House to assess his country's progress since he came to power. Ukraine has proved it can hold free and fair elections and has made a successful bid to join the WTO, as well as advancing further towards membership of NATO and the EU. Over this period Ukraine's economy has also continued to grow. However, intra-governmental struggles for dominance and acclaim show no sign of abating.
